Disaster Relief

When Disaster Strikes...

PRAY.

“And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people.” -‭‭Ephesians‬ ‭6:18‬ ‭

Most, if not all, Christ-followers recognize that prayer is an integral part of faith. Prayer is an essential part to the growth and continuance of a relationship with God. Prayer isn't a last resort but the foundation when disaster strikes. Whether down the street or around the world, we are called to hit our knees on behalf of our friends and neighbors who are suffering in the wake of disaster. Consider praying as a family or setting a reminder on your phone to pray every day for those suffering as a result of disaster.

GIVE.

“You will be enriched in every way so that you can be generous on every occasion, and through us your generosity will result in thanksgiving to God.” -2 Corinthians 9:11

Just like God's desire for us to connect to Him through the power of prayer, God calls Christ-followers to give and give generously. Giving to those in need after a disaster allows us to share the resources that God has given us to steward to bless others, glorify God and further His Kingdom work. Be careful in choosing the organization or ministry you will financially support. We recommend giving to Wildwood's Disaster Relief Fund, the PCA's Disaster Relief Fund, Samaritan's Purse and World Vision.

GO.

“Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” -Matthew 28:19-20

As people of faith, we are called to go. We must share the good news of the Gospel with everyone, and often by meeting physical needs in the midst of a crisis, people are most open to seeing their spiritual need. Our prayer is that God will not only allow us to partner with others that are on the ground serving, but we also want to mobilize and send our own people! Whether that be short, mid, or long-term, we want to be a faith family that is marked by going.

Jesus says to “go and make disciples of all nations,” even your own. Each place you visit in your everyday life is your own mission field, but we also want to see places of disaster as a prime mission field for us to go and minister the hope of the Gospel.

Wildwood's Disaster Relief team is part of the Mission to North America (MNA) Disaster Response ministry. This organization mobilizes and equips volunteer teams to provide assistance to communities in disaster relief efforts.
