Once Jonah was hurled into the sea and then rescued by the fish God had sovereignly appointed, he begins to recount the horrors of his near death experience. It is clear in reading this account that he took full responsibility for his plight. In this place of helplessness and human hopelessness, Jonah began to pray and experienced a rescue from an unlikely source, a great sea creature. This Sunday we explore our own encounters with affliction and how God uses it to bring us to the point where must cry out for grace in the midst of despair.
