The book of Jonah concludes with a contrast between Jonah’s pity on a mere plant and the Lord’s compassion on people who have lost their moral compass. It is evident throughout scripture that the Lord displays compassion toward lost sinners, such as Romans 5:6-11. In fact, compassion is so amazing precisely because the people God forgives do not deserve it. We look at these truths and ask some practical questions about our own compassion toward a culture that makes us angry.
