A Call to Unity

by Senior Pastor David McNeely

Some feel as though our nation has never been as divided as we are in 2020.  We have strong opinions on how to run the government, police communities, fund education, deal with injustice, steward the environment, and so on.  Often we are just across the aisle and close enough to touch.  At other times we are polarized and incapable of looking at the other side’s perspective.

God calls His people to something different.  He demands more from the faith family.  From Genesis to Revelation, God calls His people to unity.  The Psalmist tells us there is blessing from God when unity is sought (Psalm 133) and Jesus prays for unity among his followers (John 17).

Earlier this week, we recorded the video linked below. This video is a call to unity.  It is not a call to think a certain way about a certain issue.  It is not a rebuke.  It is a call to unity.

We recognize many are sick and tired of the discussion about all things COVID-19.  So are we.  But it isn’t going away and to ignore it will only lead us down a road of division.

On May 15, 2020 Brett McCracken wrote a piece for the Gospel Coalition entitled, Church Don't Let Coronavirus Divide You.  The principles for seeking unity are excellent.

Watch the video linked below, read the article, and pray for guidance on how to seek unity.

Division will happen naturally and without effort.  Unity will occur supernaturally and with intentional effort.

Finally, imagine how attractive a united church will become to a divided world.  Imagine how inviting it will be for those who are looking for peace amidst strife.  We believe there is an opportunity to put on display the supernatural power of God who unites His people under a greater purpose.  Where else do you find unity of purpose while maintaining diversity of opinion?

Under the guidance of King Jesus and the empowerment of the Spirit, Wildwood can lead the way.
