Looking Ahead: An Update

Dear Wildwood Church Family,

A few days ago Gov. Ron DeSantis issued an order for Floridians to stay at home for the next 30 days.

“All persons in Florida shall limit their movements and personal interactions outside of their home to only those necessary to obtain or provide essential services or conduct essential activities.”

The order goes on to clarify what essential activities are. Topping the list is:

“Attending religious services conducted in churches, synagogues and houses of worship”

We are grateful the Governor and other state officials hold religious services in such high regard. In essence they believe worship services are vital to the mental, emotional, spiritual, and even physical health of many Floridians. Thus, the state of Florida wants people of faith to continue practicing their faith during this difficult season. We agree.

So, will Wildwood open her doors for Sunday morning services?

No. We will not.

While the State of Florida has granted permission for churches to gather, the recommendation for no gatherings larger than ten people remains in effect.

We have maintained contact with the city and county leaders while monitoring the state and federal agencies in order to make wise decisions. Some difficult days may lie ahead for Leon County, but we will not panic. We will not be driven by fear. We will be driven by love. The great commandment (Matthew 22:37,39) provides direction:

Love the Lord…love your neighbor.

At this time and in these circumstances, we are convinced loving our neighbor means doing everything we can to slow the spread of COVID-19. Loving the Lord means gathering online and declaring His greatness.

God calls His people to come and worship Him. While we may be separated by space, modern technology still allows us to respond to the invitation in Psalm 95:1-7.

"Come, let us sing for joy to the Lord; let us shout aloud to the Rock of our salvation. Let us come before him with thanksgiving  and extol him with music and song. For the Lord is the great God, the great King above all gods. In his hand are the depths of the earth, and the mountain peaks belong to him. The sea is his, for he made it, and his hands formed the dry land. Come, let us bow down in worship, let us kneel before the Lord our Maker; for he is our God and we are the people of his pasture, the flock under his care."

This next week will be filled with opportunities for us to gather together online — to come and bow down.

So come this Palm Sunday at 9:15 or 11:00.

Come on Maundy Thursday at 7pm.

Come on Good Friday at 7pm.

Finally, come on Easter Sunday at 9:15 and 11:00 and celebrate the greatest person who pulled off the greatest event in human history.

Join us for all of these worship services at wildwoodtlh.com/live.

I look forward to being with you online in worship.
