Week 2: Delighting in God (Feb 19-24)

day 5- feb 19

Scripture: Psalm 37:3-5

"Trust in the Lord, and do good; dwell in the land and befriend faithfulness. 4 Delight yourself in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart. 5 Commit your way to the Lord; trust in him, and he will act."

  1. Verse 4 says we should “delight in the Lord.” How can you delight in Him today?
  2. How does delighting in the Lord affect the desires of our hearts?

day 6- feb 20

Scripture: Zephaniah 3:14-17

"Sing aloud, O daughter of Zion; shout, O Israel! Rejoice and exult with all your heart, O daughter of Jerusalem! 15 The Lord has taken away the judgments against you; he has cleared away your enemies. The King of Israel, the Lord, is in your midst;

you shall never again fear evil. 16 On that day it shall be said to Jerusalem: “Fear not, O Zion; let not your hands grow weak.

17 The Lord your God is in your midst, a mighty one who will save; he will rejoice over you with gladness; he will quiet you by his love; he will exult over you with loud singing."

  1. In light of verse 15, what does it mean for you today that God is “in your midst?”
  2. How does it make you feel that God “exults over you with loud singing?”

day 7- Feb 21

Scripture: John 15:1-8

“I am the true vine, and my Father is the vinedresser. 2 Every branch in me that does not bear fruit he takes away, and every branch that does bear fruit he prunes, that it may bear more fruit. 3 Already you are clean because of the word that I have spoken to you. 4 Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit by itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in me. 5 I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing. 6 If anyone does not abide in me he is thrown away like a branch and withers; and the branches are gathered, thrown into the fire, and burned. 7 If you abide in me, and my words abide in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you. 8 By this my Father is glorified, that you bear much fruit and so prove to be my disciples."

  1. What does it mean for us to “abide in Jesus?”
  2. What kind of fruit do we bear in our lives when we’re abiding in Jesus?

Day 8- Feb 22

Scripture: Psalm 16:8-11

"I have set the Lord always before me; because he is at my right hand, I shall not be shaken. 9 Therefore my heart is glad, and my whole being rejoices; my flesh also dwells secure. 10 For you will not abandon my soul to Sheol, or let your holy one see corruption. 11 You make known to me the path of life; in your presence there is fullness of joy; at your right hand are pleasures forevermore."

  1. Look back at verse 8. Why is it that David says he can rejoice in verse 9?
  2. In God’s presence, there’s fullness and joy. How can you spend time in His presence today?

day 9- Feb 23

Scripture: Micah 7:18-20

"Who is a God like you, pardoning iniquity and passing over transgression for the remnant of his inheritance? He does not retain his anger forever, because he delights in steadfast love. 19 He will again have compassion on us; he will tread our iniquities underfoot. You will cast all our sins into the depths of the sea. 20 You will show faithfulness to Jacob and steadfast love to Abraham, as you have sworn to our fathers from the days of old."

  1. Read verses 18 and 19 again. Underline the action words that describe what God does to our sins/iniquities/transgressions. What do these words make you think or feel?
  2. Why is it important for us to remember that God was faithful to both Jacob and Abraham?

day 10- feb 24

Scripture: Psalm 119:11-16

"I have stored up your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you. 12 Blessed are you, O Lord; teach me your statutes! 13 With my lips I declare all the rules of your mouth. 14 In the way of your testimonies I delight as much as in all riches. 15 I will meditate on your precepts and fix my eyes on your ways. 16 I will delight in your statutes; I will not forget your word."

  1. Compare David’s joy in the Word of the Lord to your own. Do you delight in God’s Word the way he did? Why or why not?
  2. Why is God’s Word better than riches (v.14)?
